What inspires you to write?
I like the idea of creating things that will outlast me. Every time you read someone’s work, you’re basically given a free pass into a part of their mind. The more I write, the more of my mind is left after I’m gone.
When did you start your insta journey?
What life lessons do you have to share with others?
Balance always wins.
A favourite of yours written by you?
I recently wrote a short story called ‘Buzzkill’.
It started with a simple idea – I wanted to create a human beehive. After that, I just piled on the layers and ended up with something special. I had been reading about Nazi Germany and how Hitler came to embody the collective unconscious of the German people. With a modern twist, I wanted the beehive to operate somewhat similarly. I used technology as the vessel to deliver this reality – with a slight nod to Elon Musk and his Neuralink device.
This story is right up my alley in respect to world building. It was a challenge in and of itself to build such a complex world in a limited number of pages. The story blends politics, technology, dystopia and examines some deep seated ideas of what makes us who we are. Freedom always has a price, as they say.
A book that changed your life?
Women – Charles Bukowski
I read this book when I was about 13. I had never previously read anyone as raw as Bukowski. The way he presented his thoughts really made an impression on me. I think there was a point in the book when I stopped and thought, “it’s as if he’s right here, telling me this story.” That’s when I started to understand how every writer has their own voice. It sparked my interest in discovering my voice, and maybe got me a little more into pushing buttons too!
What is your favourite quote?
“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.” – T.E.Lawrence
Who is your favourite writer?
Chuck Palahniuk.
What’s next on your writing journey?
A lot of the community have been asking me when I’m going to release a book. To answer the question, I’ve currently finished with the first draft of my debut novel, ‘Among Dreams’. This is a story that has been marinating in my brain for a long time, and it feels great to finally see it stare back at me from the page. It’s currently sitting at a super high word count, so I want to finish editing it down and then attempt to pursue traditional publishing. I’ll keep you guys in the loop about my progress on this as I go along!
